Denver : Day 2

via
The Saturday of our trip we woke up ready to explore. I donned a fun outfit and we headed out to Golden, CO.

The Buffalo Rose Saloon
We didn't know much about Golden until we got there but we got our first lesson just by the look of the town; it's the Old West! We walked down the main street and selected the Buffalo Rose restaurant to settle in and eat up before taking down some beer. I got, wait for it, a carnitas Cuban sandwich... YES. Pickles, whole-grain mustard, carnitas, ham, cheese; it was all there and it was SO good. I may even try to replicate it at home.

After our lunch we walked over to 13th and Ford to get in line for the Coor's tour...
First they take you on a bus around the town and drive you by neat buildings like the Armory, the oldest cobblestone building in North America. They also pointed out the mountain where Buffalo Bill's grave sits.
On the way back towards the factory, we noticed lots of little shops and fun places that we want to try sometime in the future, but there was beer to be had!
Firstly, I'll say the tour was OK. You are given a handheld audio tour device and you walk around on the tour path to hear about where you are. It's neat to see copper kettles the size of a small reddish barn scattered about the place, but I'd love it if the people standing around staring at you would walk with you, too. Kinda awkward...

Halfway through the tour you get to try fresh beer off the production line. I felt the silver lining of not conceiving last month and even non-beer-drinking me had a cup! It was really good and I've never had beer that fresh before. After some more touring and seeing how the bottles and cans are made/packaged we went to the post-tour drinking salon. They give you 3 free beers of your choice before you leave, and we used almost all of our freebies. I discovered a beer that I actually like: Blue Moon Belgian White, and Shawn discovered some beers he'd never heard of before like Coor's Banquet. We drank slowly, leisurely and until the place shut down. Afterwards we took a stroll back to the truck and met a man from England who lived in Dubai. He was halfway through driving across the USA; he'd always wanted to do that. We meet the neatest people when we go places... he wasn't the last that day!
After Golden, we hit up Boulder just to walk around. We walked up "the Hill" and saw some shops. It started to rain as it got later and we decided to head back just in time for it to start pouring! We headed back to Denver and hit up a restaurant where I couldn't have eaten ANYTHING if I were pregnant: TAG | RAW BAR.

Everything on the menu has been spared any heat over 170 degrees including the Toko (Octopus) Ceviche, Kangaroo Loin Tartare, and the best California Rolls EVAR. The settings are so modern, white and clean that any worry of food safety is put to rest, especially with the kitchen being the entire area behind the very-visible bar. We ordered a Mezcal margarita to go with our food and the whole experience was just luscious. I told Shawn after we finished eating, "The only word I can think of right now is 'SATIATED.'" I wanted for nothing after eating there even though the fare is admittedly light. I felt great and ready to party on into the night.
We went back to the hotel to put the mohawk back up and to change clothes. We set out on the 2.5 mile walk with RTD Bus passes in hand, ready for a night at... Church.
Imagine a church converted into a night club. Stained glass windows surrounding you and throngs of others as you dance until you're sweaty where there used to be pews in the congregation area.

Apparently it was Latin music night but we didn't care. I mean, would you? We just wanted to see it! Plus we met two very nice people while we were hanging out on the roof and they actually even gave us a ride back to our Hotel. They wished us well on our Baby Journey and there was no 2.5 mile walk for us that night! We limped up to our room and collapsed, both agreeing this had been a very fun night indeed.

See Day 1 here!!!
