Eco Chic Wedding

I LOVE(!) Style Unveiled. I just discovered the blog and I found a section on their site called "Eco Chic" so I clicked it, considering ourselves to be so. I found 101 things you can do to help you have a Greener wedding. The most important one: Live green after the wedding. We live green now and we'll live green later!
Here's the other ones we are doing!

Ceremony
-Have your ceremony and reception at the same location. Both the events are on the same level of the building, even!
-Blow bubbles rather than tossing rice; rice kills birds when they eat it. Bubbles, away!
-Have an outdoor ceremony and reception. Outdoor ceremony on the patio.
-Decorate with branches! Cottonwoods have a special meaning to us so all the swag pieces will be local Cottonwood branches.
-Hire an all-digital photographer. Digital camera and photos on a disc only!
-Hire an all-digital videographer. Our friend Josh is in charge of this and he'll do it up on a disc, I know!

Reception
-Keep the wedding cake simple. 2 layers of cake (1 of which is for eating now!), cupcakes and donuts.
-Use the linens that your reception site provides. The color blue napkin they had was the sign I needed that this was our place.
-Rent real glasses and dishes, as opposed to using disposable plates. The venue also has glass plates, cups and real silverware.
-Select a wedding venue close to your home. The venue is literally 10 minutes from Grandpa's house.
-Use cloth napkins, rather than paper. Again, the venue has great blue napkins!
-Rather than hosting a full bar, have a personalized cocktail made of organic ingredients – including organic vodka. Free beer and wine while it lasts, y'all.
-Use food that is in-season for the reception. Beef is always in season in Nebraska and the veggies are seasonal.
-Use beeswax candles. Looking into them for the centerpieces now!!!
-Use reusable linens, rather than disposable ones. Venue linens are furnished to us!!!
-Continue spreading the word about ways to be eco-friendly to all your friends and family! I may try to develop conversation-starter cards for the table with Green-facts that are unknown or less well-known.
-Donate the leftover uneaten food from your reception, instead of throwing it out. I tried to set this up, I really did, but the Nebraska state health code prohibits taking food out of a venue like a reception.

Guests & Bridal Party
-Choose bridesmaids dresses that your friends will wear again.Right off the rack, ladies! If it's a tank top and tea length, it's good!
-Have the groomsmen wear a suit they can use again for work. Casual does it.
-Register for your gifts at local shops, so as to save on shipping materials and gas. Any of our registry items is 20 minutes or less away.
-Keep the wedding small. The more guests you invite, the bigger the carbon footprint left from the wedding. My fingers are crossed at 110.
-Rent the tuxes from a local shop. That's our only idea for those.
-Give a reusable, locally made cloth tote bag to your bridal party as a gift. This might be a last-minute DIY.
-Calculate the mileage guests will travel and then offset their carbon footprint by donating to preserving the rainforests. That's our only idea for those.

Favors
-Donate the flowers from your wedding to a hospital. Fantastic! Will do.
-Give a recycled handmade paper bookmark with wildflower seeds as a favor. This can be planted once they are finished using it. Sunflower seed packets!!!

Paper
-Collect all the paper products at the end of the night and recycle them.
I'll have a buddy be in charge of this for sure.
-Order your programs to be printed on 100% recycled post consumer waste paper that has been processed without chlorine. We're DIYing them and our invites on 100% recycled paper and the envelopes are recycled as well.
-Create a wedding website, rather than using mailer inserts with your invitation. Thanks, the Knot!
-When printing for your wedding, use a printer that can use paper with a high percentage of post-consumer recycled content.100% Recycled paper on all wedding paper.
-Have your guests sign the matte of a framed photo from your engagement instead of a guest book. Actually just changed this over when we met with our Photographer!

 Extras
-Purchase wedding shoes that you will wear again.
Does it count if I've already worn them, also?
-Purchase your dress or tuxedo from a vintage boutique.Rehearsal dress is vintage!
-Take an eco-considerate honeymoon. Travel close to home or consider eco-tourism for your honeymoon destination. We're taking a Chicago mini-moon right after the wedding! Only a 6 hour drive or 90 minute flight.
-Use all natural make-up. I don't wear makeup but when I do on the wedding day, it's going to be the good stuff.
-Have an outdoorsy honeymoon, such as camping, backpacking, or fishing. Roughing it in Kingston, Jamaica count?
-Use your Grandma’s vintage veil. It can be your "something borrowed." Nana's necklace is my something borrowed. Grandma's hanky is my something old.
-Use a pump spray hairspray can, rather than an aerosol can. If I use hairspray I will!
-Go barefoot! The first idea I had!!!
-Use an environmentally friendly cleaner when it comes time to clean the dress. I don't know if I'll clean the dress, I have plans for it in Jamaica!
-Do your rehearsal dinner at a friend’s home and have everyone chip in to cook. My dad is a Mason so we're having at the Lodge and it's homemade sloppy hilljos with our neighbors and families making sides.
