Pinspire is a rip-off of Pinterest and you may be shocked to find out it's not the only one! Pinme.ru, a Russian version, and another site based in China caled Markpic are both copycats of the Pinterest site which is valued at over $20 million.
I don't think Pinterest will care as they are the original and they have also founded themselves legitimately, both qualitites any copycat sites lack. I think the fans of Pinterest will be the real ones who are offended, much like myself.
I understand there are "no new ideas;" that is why I will never choose to copyright anything I make. But when you pull up this "pinspire" site and compare it to Pinterest's home page, I hear a "mwaaaamp mwap."

I won't be signing up, using or advocating Pinspire. I hope they get sued until they have no pants.

Wow, this is a really interesting example and one I'd be interested to see considered in a court case, as I've taken a couple classes in copyright law. I learned that while you can't copyright an idea, you can copyright the execution of the idea, and to me, Pinspire definitely does this. As for your creations -- your blog posts, artwork, etc. -- they are protected even without your taking any action. When you create them, you are rendering them in a fixed, tangible form, which therefore automatically protects them. That said, the protection only applies to your exact rendering, and not to the idea itself. You can also choose to "waive" your right to certain protections via a Creative Commons License, which I use for my blog. Sorry if this is all TMI, but I figure I might as well share what I've learned! :)
@Heather, this is not TMI! I am VERY interested in this stuff. It will be interesting to see what comes of the Pinterest copycats.
since I just came back to the blog world, I still have not signed up for Pinterest..I still don't understand what it's about..lol
You're right about the 'fans' being taking the most offense. Pinterest is like no other site
"sued until they have no pants" -- LOVE IT!
I'm putting that in my vernacular.
I'll try to reference you when I use it, so ya know, you don't sue me until I am pants-less.
@Crown'd Vic I promise you can use that all you want! LOL!
Oh my, I just visited pinspire and sure enough looks similar to pinterest. Either way I still love pinterest, regardless of who copycats them. I hope they do get sued.
