To update: My post on the OBB was filtered as spam due to all the attachments like photos and whatnot on my post and I was disabled in error. I hold to my opinions and I'll probably start to slack away from there and be more over here anyway.
My Disclaimer to Keep in Mind While you Read: These are My opinions in My blog. DO NOT FEED THE TAFFETA |
1) You have to apply to see if you're "offbeat enough." I don't need anyone's validation to be unique. I'm me whether you say so or not and it's quite apparent I'm one of a kind, pink hair or no.
2) The members regularly bash people who may be conventional or more conventional than they are. One of the popular posts right now is titled "The Knot is (k)not for me!!!" Your opinion is fine; But if bashing people is your substitute for being personally responsible enough to kick-butt on your own regardless of anyone else, you have a personal issue.
The Knot has been great for me and I dig their policy of personal responsibility and that they are who they are regardless of anyone else. They don't point the finger of disapproval. I also dig that they advertise not only The Nest and The Bump, their own sites, but you get joint-accounts with WeddingChannel.com, too!
3) The front the Offbeat Bride site gives off is that they're an all-options-are-okay-here site, but if you're average, you're less of a "real" person or you're seen as giving into the masses. A stab at taffeta is specifically taken by the slogan of the site and original book. Seriously, what harm can a fabric do?! So your dress happens to be made of taffeta, what else can they shame into you?!
4) I have a feeling people in the Offbeat Tribe do things more out of spectacle to escape the ingrained feeling of shame anything traditional evokes after being a member.
My advice if you're sniffing around the Offbeat media: stick primarily to the Book and don't let anyone shame you into or out of a white dress.
