Vintage Dress Alteration

BEFORE
Shawn and I have been "married" to each other for a few years now. We have lived and conducted ourselves in a way that if Nebraska recognized it, it would be commonlaw marriage. In light of our upcoming legal marriage we want to make a stand with Nature that we were married first, before the State said so!
That being said, we will wake up around Dawn on Thursday, pack up and hike out into the woods we love. We are going to pack my vintage dress, an outfit for him, and his camera equipment. We have found a spot already that we wanted to get married at. It is so beautiful with a sunken in creek bed and trees everywhere. Once there, we'll change, take some photos and privately discuss what we only want the other to hear. Some stuff I don't think everyone would care to see us get all mushy over at the Friday wedding!
So what do you think of the vintage dress's real purpose now?
AFTER
Very understandibly my alteration lady is too busy leaving for her Summer trip to finish up the hem shortening. So being the HiLLjO, I did it myself! And what do you think of its new length?

How Am I?

"I'M IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION!!!"

People I have been talking to and seeing lately always ask me the same question "How are you feeling?"
Let's see... I'm at 7 days to the wedding... but I appear mostly normal. Let me tell you how it really feels!!!
Underneath my ebbing surface glow, there is a mountainous mound of stress and cautious anticipation. Every worry, every tear not currently streaming down my face, every nervous giggle, every gift letter, everything to do with this wedding is settling under the surface and in the back of my mind. Like a wedding glacier, right Diana?
I am a highly emotional being, that I have realized. I only recently learned to be master over my emotion that displays in the last couple of years. I am so glad for that this this week because I feel crazy but I can keep it in check. I think I'm not outwardly crazy too because of all the steps we have taken to be really organized! I have EVERY SINGLE PAPER or thought that we will need in our wedding binder. I think for safety I should duct-tape it to my leg as a garter on the wedding day.
But honestly, I am SO ready to just sit back and enjoy the shew on Friday the 10th, and watch all our hard work planning and organizing play out. And I want to promise something here and now: I will not abandon this blog! I may not have the most followers, but damn do I ever have THE BEST.

Thank YOU, personally, for all the warm wishes!!! You guys make me well up daily.

1 Week Until We're Married

2 Weeks Until We're Married Bunnays!

14 Days Until We're Married!

Our Birdcage cardholder is done! This was Shawn's Grandma's birdcage from her canary, Tweety. It was destined for garbage last summer until I spoke up and took it, not knowing at the time what it would end up as. Now look at it. Shawn is entirely responsible for the cleaning, drying (with the air compressor!) and painting the whole thing.

He even cut out a cardboard circle for the bottom because he thought it would be more stable. All I did was literally hot glue a few things on it.
The moss bunnies are done, also! They started out with green gingham ribbons around their necks and pink flower eyes. They're HiLLjO+Shawn-licious now! Shawn's mommy painted the eyes and noses and I glued on the bow ties.
I got my Bride's bag in the mail!!! I ordered it from etsy shop Pinkvelvetpress. They made me a custom listing for my order and it was here on time! The bag is only around $12 and they have it in all different colors. You can even customize the color and style of the font! I was very happy with my bag!!!

100 Days to Go! WOW!

Bunny Wedding
bluedogrose @storybird.com
Time is really flying now and I realized that if I own the supplies for a project, it must be completed. Now.

So onto the rushing DIY tide, everyone. It's going to be appearing so frequently you won't know what to do.
For today's DIY I want to share with you my plans for it first. At the venue, we are having a guest book table (duh) set up with our matted photo, a centerpiece, our big potted Saguaro and a couple of sock bunnies. That's right not sock monkeys, sock bunnies.

You see, I make sock monkeys and sell them on etsy and Shawn & I have our own; but for our bunny-themed wedding we need some sock bunnies, mmk? I don't share a pattern for my monkeys because of two reasons: 1) I make them different each time and 2) I share a lot, but some things are proprietary to even the HiLLjO.
There are a ton of free patterns out there like this one that work wonderfully.
For Shawn's bunny, I stuffed and sewed bunny feet instead of regular feet and I made long ears. I also pre-sewed the bunny profile before stuffing the main body sock. Here's a teaser of him without his eyes and outfit.

Next up on the DIY Docket: Jr. Bridesmaids & Flower Girl accessories: Flip flops, hair accessories and flower baskets.
